Great Things Happen In July!
I always look forward to the month of July because many great things happen in July for me. Let me share with you every major milestone that has happened to me in the lovely month of July! I’m sure you can relate to some of them!
1. Came to Sydney for University in July 2009
When I was in high school, I applied to UNSW for my tertiary education and received an offer to study there! I was super excited as UNSW was my top choice. Once my results came out, I applied for the student visa right away. My graduation was in May 2009 and I flew straight to Sydney in July 2009. That was 11 years ago, can you believe it?! Here’s me walking around Sydney city and exploring the iconic tourist spots in Sydney. Please ignore my sense of fashion back then!
2. Started my first full time corporate job in July 2013
After I graduated from university, I was looking for a full time corporate job and managed to score an interview with Power2Motivate. I guess my interview went super awesome that I was pretty much guaranteed to get the job! Absolutely enjoyed working there as I learnt so much and grew as an individual. Here are some of my Power2Motivate family when I first started the job. Yep, we love celebrating milestones on boats!
3. Got together with my boyfriend (now hubby) in July 2013
I was introduced to ST (short for Siebe-Thijs) in January 2013 by a mutual friend. We met at Bondi Beach and noticed that we had a great connection. Few weeks after we met, he told me that he was going to India for work placement for 8 months. He did come back in between for a quick visit. We kept in touch throughout his stay in India and when he came back midway in July 2013, we made it official! 7 years later and still going strong!
4. Officially launched my photography business in July 2017
I’ve always been passionate about photography and one day I thought it would be pretty amazing if I could start my own photography business. It was definitely a scary (but great) decision as I decided to quit my corporate job and focus on launching my business. I focused on building my portfolio and even offered free shoots to couples initially. The adrenaline rush that I get from every photoshoot session affirmed me that I was doing the right move. As I built my website and planned the launch party, everything came into place and I officially launched my photography business in July 2017! This month marks my third year running my own business and it has been such an amazing journey. Thank you to everyone that has supported me throughout the years! Forever grateful.
5. Married the love of my life in July 2018
Around the third year mark of our relationship, I am pretty sure we had the talk about ‘where is this relationship going?’. Of course I was the one to initiate the conversation as I wanted to know where we were headed. I’m sure many people can relate to this. He assured me that it was a long term relationship and that he was serious about being with me for a very long time! So then I hinted at the idea of marriage as I knew it was going to be a long process as he had to ask for permission from both of my parents face to face. Given that our families live overseas, we had to plan our visits to Malaysia for him to meet both my parents and ask them the big question. Thank goodness both of my parents gave him the green light to proceed. In January 2018, he finally proposed and we planned for an intimate winter wedding in July 2018. This month marks our second wedding anniversary and we are doing a little road trip to Port Macquarie to celebrate it!
6. Moved into a new apartment in July 2020
Most recently, we decided to move to a bigger apartment and found a lovely apartment in Ultimo. We signed the lease in June 2020 and officially moved into the new apartment beginning of July 2020! It was a pretty quick decision and we couldn’t be happier with the move! It’s much more spacious and lots of natural light coming in. Super excited to unpack and decorate our new home. Stay tuned for the finished look soon!
